The Learning Covenant
Before we begin, let's establish the foundations of our journey together. This is a space of transformation—and transformation requires commitment.
What This System Is
This is not a tick-box exercise. This is not about compliance. This is a guided journey through the Phoenix Cultural Liberation methodology—designed to transform how you see, feel, and respond to racial inequity in healthcare.
You will be challenged. You will be uncomfortable. You will also be supported, held, and guided toward genuine liberation—both for yourself and for those you serve.
Your Commitments
By entering this system, you commit to:
- Presence over performance — Showing up authentically, not performing "wokeness"
- Discomfort as data — Using your discomfort as information, not as a reason to disengage
- Truth with care — Speaking honestly while holding others' dignity
- Action beyond awareness — Moving from knowing to doing, from intention to impact
- Collective liberation — Understanding that your freedom is bound up with the freedom of others
Our Commitment to You
We commit to creating a brave space—not a "safe" space where challenge is avoided, but a brave space where growth is possible. You will be:
- Guided — Ava's story will walk you through each principle and practice
- Supported — Resources, reflection points, and care options throughout
- Respected — Your experiences, pace, and boundaries will be honoured
- Celebrated — Your growth will be witnessed and acknowledged
Some content in this system addresses bias, institutional harm, and difficult experiences. You may opt out of any activity. Support resources and wellbeing options are available throughout.
"The work ahead will ask things of you. But what it gives back—to you, to your patients, to your colleagues—is worth every moment of discomfort."— Ava Thompson
